Marine Chief Warrant Officer Michael Fay USMC (retired) lives with his wife Janis Albuquerque in Fredericksburg, Virginia. From 2000 to his retirement from the Marines at the end of 2009, he was one of just two official combat artists working for the National Museum of the Marine Corps. During his tenure as a uniformed combat artist Fay deployed twice each to Iraq and Afghanistan. Following his retirement he returned to Afghanistan in 2010 as a freelance war artist and correspondent for the National Post of Canada, The New York Times, Leatherneck Magazine and Wild River Review. Fay is also the founder and director of The Joe Bonham Project, a joint venture of the International Society of War Artists and the Society of Illustrators, where the best of American artists spend time with and sketching wounded service members in military hospitals. The oldest son of a Marine officer who served before and during WW II, Fay was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
